Avian Protein
Why protein is for the birds!
Protein is essential to animal and human health. With the exception of water, the majority of the body is comprised of protein. Bones, muscles, skin, feathers, nails and internal organs are protein, so also are enzymes, which influence every function of the body. Inadequate quantity and quality of protein results in the classic signs of protein deficiency: poor muscle development, water retention, a suppressed immune system and lack of energy.
The major source of nutrition for domestic birds is carbohydrates, even though a rich diet of protein is essential. In the wild, birds eat insects, worms, vegetables, etc., as protein sources. This is one of the main reasons why we formulated The Missing Link Avian Formula with both a dairy protein source (whey) and a vegetable protein source (soy).
