BAKING with The Missing Link
Q. - Is there a recipe I can make with Missing Link to put the powder into some type of treat form?
A. - You can use our supplements for cooking or baking to enhance the taste of your baked goods or doggie treats.
However, we really don't recommend doing this.
- We know that baking with the Omega 3 Basic (our human product) or with The Missing Link formula (for pets) can enhance the taste and quality of "baked breads" or "treats." So, we decided to do some testing, and we compared the results of the "baked breads" to the original products (unbaked supplements). The testing was performed by an outside laboratory. We found the following:
- In "baked" breads, the essential fatty acids, omega 3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and omega 6 (linoleic acid), were stable during baking for 35 minutes at 350°F.
- However, the percent of essential fatty acids decreased. The reason for this result is logical - ingredients such as flour, salt, water, etc., were added into the original product. This created a smaller proportion of total fat when compared to the original product.
- The amount of minerals will not change with baking because the minerals are stable during processing. However, there are many naturally occurring phytochemicals in our products that support the immune system, and overall health. It is a well known fact that fresh cooked foods may lose up to 50% of their nutrients with cooking, and up to 20% in freezing.
Following is some general information about our Missing Link products:
- The primary focus of The Missing Link Canine formula is the benefit that your dogs can derive from the omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids.
- Our products are not a pet food per se nor are they vitamin/mineral supplements.
- They are wonderful all-natural dietary supplements that are an excellent source of soluble and insoluble fiber as well as the essential fatty acids. These essential fatty acids (omega 3, 6, and 9) are necessary for the absorption of fat soluble vitamins.
- Along with the other nutrients in our supplements, they help increase energy and strongly support the digestive and the immune systems.
- As you are probably already aware, it is necessary that the digestive system be healthy, otherwise no matter what doses of vitamins, minerals, or medications are given, they will not be absorbed effectively.
- The enzymes in our products are also naturally occurring.
- The combination of the all-natural ingredients in our formulas, including dietary fiber, works to clean the animal's digestive system and helps it to work more efficiently and effectively.
- To receive the maximum benefits from The Missing Link, we recommend that you supplement your dog's daily diet with our products in their original forms, and in the doses suggested on our package label.
